Program Description
2009

Early Childhood Program:

Besides being lots of fun, our programs are specially designed to provide children with a strong foundation in movement and dance.

Kinder Dance Combo:

3 - 4 years old; one or two 45-minute classes weekly. A "getting ready for ballet" class. Your child will learn about music, basic coordination skills, creative expression, spatial relationships and rhythm.

Pre-Dance:

This class is designed for students to make a smooth transition from the Early Childhood Program to the Classical Ballet Division. Recommended for children with no previous experience.

Ballet:

The study of classical ballet is achieved through the use of a graded syllabus of Vaganova Ballet School in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Ballet I - Two 75-minute classes per week. Children learn the basics of the ballet barre and some center work.

Ballet II - Two 90-minute classes per week. A further expansion of the basic barre techniques. Increased center work.

Ballet III - Three 90-minute classes per week, including pre-pointe and pointe classes.

Ballet Pre-Pointe / Pointe:

Students must take two technique classes per week in order to gain the necessary strength to learn the pointe technique. A proficient level of ballet technique must be demonstrated by audition.

Intermediate & Intermediate Advanced Levels:

Four 90-minute classes per week.

Advanced Level:

Five 90-minute classes per week.

Pre-Professional Training Program &
The Finishing Program:

In addition to the daily Technique Ballet Classes, students study Variations, Pas de Deux and Classical Repertoire.

Jazz / Lyrical:

45-minute lessons are offered for Jazz I. 60-minute lessons are offered for all other levels. This is a fun and exciting dance form. Because jazz technique requires a strong knowledge of ballet technique, we recommend that a ballet class be taken concurrently.

Hip Hop:

45-minute lessons are offered in Hip Hop I. 60-minute lessons for all other levels and ages. In Jazz and Hip Hop Classes a warm-up involving flexibility and strengthening exercises is followed by simple steps. Steps are ultimately choreographed into short combinations, as the students advances, the steps and combinations become more intricate and challenging. The emphasis is on footwork, coordination, and the expression of rhythm through sound.

Modern / Improvisational Movement:

Modern dance captures the heart, feelings, and lyrical sense of the individual. The torso is set free in this class, allowing a great sense of self-expression. In addition to stretching and strengthening exercises, the warm-up will include breathing exercises and a series of contractions. Contemporary walks, runs, and leaps across the floor will precede a contemporary dance during the second half of the one hour class.
